My abstract paper sculpture “From the Shadows, Bring Light” was inspired by my need to find light and peace after a devastating loss. The St. Francis prayer was my reference point. One of the lines in the prayer says, “that where there are shadows, I may bring light.” After losing my only child, I was in the ‘shadows’ of grief, trying to find faith. The prayer inspires me every day to look to the light – and bring the light - despite the darkness. The sculpture features a ramp, at the top of which is the light, but there are barriers and obstacles, representing those impediments one faces along the way.
