"WITHIN"
My mixed media geometric sculpture “Within” explores the perception of ‘restriction’ versus ‘protection.’ In this abstract work, you see a series of gateways, or portals, that seem somewhere between real and imagined. The space could be interpreted as a constrained enclosure or a place of safety and shelter.
In this geometric abstraction, I limited my color palette to white, black, gray and yellow, and added new materials - wire mesh and aluminum wire - to my usual paper stock. My use of the wire mesh creates a dominant texture and pattern, leaving me to question: is it harsh or soothing?
I invite you to wander into this space and decide for yourself what you see and feel -- and, do you find yourself in it -- or not?
