Reinforcement

During a morning walk, I was struck by the sculptural qualities of scaffolding surrounding a home under construction. I had an immediate connection to this structure, thinking that just as scaffolding supports and reinforces a structure while it is being created or renovated, so do humans use supports and reinforcements during our lives when we need them. 
 
I researched many photos of scaffolding to learn about its structural qualities, angles, and connections. This geometric, abstract paper sculpture features a ramp, inviting viewers in.  I also created patterned elements, to reflect the many rods and beams found in scaffolding.
